5 Insanely Effortless Tips to Dress YOUR Body
Hey girl! If you’ve stumbled across this page, then like me, you are sick and tired of being told what size and what kinds of clothes you should be wearing. Raise your hand if influencers that you know only wear a size 25 in jeans and only buy clothes from Madewell, J.Crew, and Anthropologie. I’m here to change the standard.
What happened to affordable clothes that are flattering for our unique bodies? What happened to thrifting? What happened to wearing the clothes that fit YOU instead of worrying about the size on the tag? Well, look no further! Here are 5 tips to dress YOUR body with the clothes you already own!
Wear the clothes that fit your body right now, just as you are: This is about celebrating your imperfectly perfect body just the way it is. No need to join a gym, start a diet, go keto, do a cleanse, or any of the other extreme things we do to our bodies when we put pressure on ourselves to look a certain way. Be you. Just do it.
Donate clothes that you don’t wear: It is SO tempting to put so much pressure on ourselves to lose weight and keep clothes that we wore when we were skinny. Let’s treat ourselves with kindness and donate these items to people in need. It’s a win win (because life is too short to feel the pressure of the skinny jeans that you wore when you were getting ready for your wedding)!
Wear clothes that make you feel good: There are way too many times I end up making a heaping pile of clothes on my bed in the morning because I can’t find an outfit that makes me feel good. It can literally make or break my day. So, I have been consciously decreasing the amount of clothes I have to avoid this. And you can too! Having a wardrobe that fits you well and brings you joy is so important for how you will feel when you look in the mirror. It can be a total game changer when it comes to self esteem.
Have staple items: Did you know that many women and men create their own uniforms? This could be black slacks and button down shirts. Or having one suit in multiple colors. Experts says that when you have your own uniform you spend less time worrying about how you look and more time focused on what matters. This could be anything from family to kids to your job. When you find your staple items, try to get them in multiple colors to make getting dressed easy and mindless. My staple items for work right now are: Target khakis, a button down, and a pair of boots. It just works.
Screw the size on the tag: Here’s what I know… a size 2 from Old Navy is NOT the same as a size 2 from Hollister. It just isn’t and that is a fact. So let’s focus less on what the size of the tag says and more on how it fits your body. I can tell you this fact: I own a size 28 in a pair of Levi boyfriend jeans (and they’re tight) which is the equivalent to a size 6/8. I also own a pair of Old Navy boyfriend jeans that are a size 2. And guess what. It. Does. Not. Matter. Because a size on a tag does not determine your worth or mine. Wear what fits your body and screw the tag.
