5 Minimalist Outfits to Wear this Holiday Season
It’s the holidays. This means the frantic, frenzied state of living is here. I used to stress over what to wear for special occasions like a holiday party, Christmas dinner, New Years Eve gathering and everything else in between. Maybe being stressed is a bit of an understatement. I would go through every piece of clothing in my closet until landmines were created around my entire bedroom. Not only did I feel like I wasn’t skinny enough to wear the clothes I currently owned, but I also felt like I needed to wear something brand new in order to feel good about myself. This fiasco usually ended in tears of frustration after I ridiculed my body and picked myself apart in front of a mirror convincing myself why I was too fat or just not skinny enough to wear what I owned.
I’m not saying these things never happen anymore, but they are less frequent. The difference between then and now is that I am learning how to love myself as I am, right now. A big part of that has been choosing clothes that flatter MY body. I am no longer looking at women who wear a size 0 for fashion advice because let’s be honest, my thighs will never look the same as theirs in jeans. We are all shapes and sizes. We should all celebrate our differences. We should all accept ourselves with the love (especially for our bodies) that we so deserve.
As I’ve continued to age, I’ve realized more and more that your style can be just that, yours. And this means you don’t have to wear something extravagant for a special occasion. It means dressing YOUR body in what YOU feel good in. I am going to share with you 5 minimalist outfits that make me feel absolutely stunning and bonus: they’re comfortable too. I hope these outfits inspire you to shop your closet and wear what makes you feel as dazzling as you are this holiday season.
1. All Black Everything: Go in your closet and find your 50 shades of black to create a chic and monochromatic holiday look. It’s flattering, timeless, and can be dressed up or down with a sweater and a pair of flats.
2. The Mom Jeans: These jeans have become my new favorite. They are comfortable, high waisted, and have the perfect amount of detail (hello buttons). I paired them with a thick ribbed turtle neck for a laid back feel.
3. The New LBD: I’m calling the black jumpsuit the new little black dress. It’s just as chic as a LBD and can be dressed up or down for any occasion.
4. Cozy and Casual: This outfit exudes coziness. Joggers, chambray shirt, super cozy cardigan, and leopard print flats. I don’t know if it can get comfier than this while still looking put together.
5. Fancy and Sophisticated: This mustard velvet skirt is so versatile. It looks fancy dressed up and you have the option to dress it down with a tshirt if that’s your style. I like to pair bold colors with neutrals. I think the black really makes this color pop. This is the perfect outfit for any holiday festivity.
